A recent beef recall here in the United States has sparked discussion among “meatatarians” like myself concerning what we’re really putting into our bodies when it comes to beef, chicken, and pork.
Luckily, we are privileged to live in a time when responsible brands that sell healthy meats are far more plentiful and accessible than ever before.

At Thriveworks, we believe one of the best ways to supplement our health mentally and emotionally is by taking care of our bodies, and food is a big part of that!

So we put together a list of great meat brands that promote healthy eating that you can buy at the grocery store or even order online:
1. Applegate

We’ll start with my personal favorite: Applegate Organic and Natural Meats. These guys have a fantastic selection that is very versatile and easy to jump into. They provide burgers, deli meat, bacon and even corn dogs, but it’s all made with healthy ingredients.

Their meat contains no hormones, antibiotics, artificial ingredients, or even fillers. Because they take care of their animals, their meat is always fresh and delicious, while still affordable.

What really sticks out to me, however, is how they prevent diseases. They do this effectively by spreading their farms out in different areas, allowing them to deter any potential problems. Check out their “About Us” video to learn more.

2. Laura’s Lean Beef

If you are really picky about taste and flavor when it comes to your beef, we definitely recommend Laura’s. On top of being organic and tasting great, these meats are lean and low calorie, allowing you to eat your favorite meats guilt-free.

Out of all the brands on this list, Laura’s is also one of the easiest to find in grocery stores, including many here in the east coast. If there isn’t one close to you, their online store also has great deals.

3. Organic Prairie

One of this brand’s best qualities is their commitment to being “farm to table.” They keep records of every animal on their farms, before and after they leave, and they always test meats for bacteria before releasing them to the public.

Their meticulous attention to detail makes them one of the safest bets when it comes to choosing a brand that is consistently responsible with their meats (and farms!)

Organic Prairie is also a great choice if you want to help local farmers. This organization is actually a cooperative of farmers devoted to producing healthy options for all of us meat lovers.

4. Bell & Evans

If you really love chicken, then Bell & Evans is definitely for you. They have been specializing in poultry for over 100 years, and the quality of their food explains why that is.

Their poultry is raised on an all-vegetable diet devoid of hormones and antibiotics, to name just a few. They also provide great frozen entries in case you don’t have time to cook!

Hailing from Pennsylvania, Bell & Evans is pretty easy to find on the east coast, but is also available across the country. My family actually had a Bell & Evans turkey a few years ago, and we could definitely taste the difference.

So the next time you’re in the grocery store or planning your meals out online, consider seeking out great brands like these for your meat options. Your body will definitely thank you!
