Scott Griffiths is a National Health and Medical Research Council Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He researches eating and body image disorders, including muscle dysmorphia, anorexia nervosa, body dysmorphic disorder, anabolic steroids, and the contributions that masculinity, femininity, and stigma make to these. In this TEDxSydney Talk, Scott discusses muscle dysmorphia, the ‘male’ eating disorder. While it’s not really a male-only issue, a disproportionate number of men are impacted by it. Griffiths argues that eating disorders are moving targets, due to constantly changing cultural influences and that the increasing focus on muscularity has led to an rise of men with muscle dysmorphia.
