Mindfulness can help caregivers of military veterans cope with stress and anxiety. This, according to a study from the University of Illinois.

Researchers taught mindfulness to 11 informal caregivers of veterans, such as spouses and other family members. These participants met for two hours each week, over an 8-week period, to learn mindfulness skills, of which included focusing on the present and concentrating on body sensations.

After the 8 weeks, participants reported spending an average of 19 minutes weekly engaging in the mindfulness activities. They reported significant stress reduction, as well as decreases in anxiety.

Researchers say their findings show that even a small amount of mindfulness can benefit people caring for veterans.
