Anorexia and Autism

Autism spectrum disorders, which are many times more prevalent in males than females, might be presenting in female girls in a unique way, according to Kate Kelland of Reuters, and a study by Simon Baron-Cohen at Cambridge University.

According to a recent study, female participants with the eating disorder anorexia present a higher level of some characteristics of autism, compared to their non-anorexic counterparts.

Symptoms include an above-average interest in systems and order, and a below-average ability to experience empathy.

Researches believe that these finding could aid in a mission to find new and improved ways to help anorexics overcome the illness.
