Teens suffering with depression struggle to recall certain memories, which affects their performance in school.

A study from the University of Reading found that highly depressed teenagers display poorer working memory than their healthy counterparts. Additionally, depressed teens ruminate more than their classmates.

Researchers say these disruptions in memory and thinking abilities interfere with learning, school work, and other everyday tasks.

The team says it’s important we understand why depressed teens struggle in school and that these findings could help support young, depressed students.
