Cherry Hill Grief Therapy

Grief Therapy in Cherry Hill, NJ

Loss is an inevitable experience in humanity and grief is the natural response. The process of grieving can be healthy in which an individual is able to release the emotional pain that is resulted from losing a precious person. But if it is difficult to break out of those emotions, it can become an unbearable feeling and some individuals find it difficult to move forward. The strong emotions that proceed after losing someone can be so painful that it might be hard to cope at times, especially if an individual is unable to accept that person is gone. When an individual can allow time and focus on the thoughts and feelings directed from the loss, they will be able to move forward and heal.

Common symptoms:

  • Mourning and preoccupation of the loss
  • Shock and disbelief
  • Isolation from social events and people
  • Behavioral change such as avoidance or proximity seeking
  • Anger
  • Bitterness
  • Frustration
  • Anxiety
  • Worry
  • Depression

There are two different types of grief that can occur from loss. Acute grief will ease over time, and the pain intensity will decrease naturally and diminish slowly. Complicated grief is prolonged yearning and sadness that becomes severe. This type of grief occurs around ten percent of mourning individuals (Shear, e al., 2011).

It is often best for a mourning individual to seek support and be around others that can help with coping. If the grieving process is not being acknowledged, or interrupted by confusing thoughts, it can be redirected in a negative way and impact a person’s life for a long time. Feelings of guilt, blame, anger, unforgiveness, bitterness and frustration can grow deep. Lack of support and feeling that there is no one to turn to during this process can lead down a dark road. Nevertheless, our therapists are here to help remove that pain and promote healing. Our professionals are trained to help individuals make good decisions during this time and teach how to decipher which feelings that may be preventing the ability to heal. An individual will gain insight on how to push through the difficult emotions slowly and cope with the loss.

Thriveworks Review

★★★★★
I have been meeting with Greg Miller since February. His kindness, compassion and down to earth approach has helped me to achieve positive changes for my mental well-being. Meeting with Greg each week has allowed me to discuss problems both big and small and to feel more secure with my self-agency, to feel acceptance in my relationships, and to work on myself (self-confidence, career goals, etc.). I highly recommend Greg (as well as Thrive-works) to any individual seeking mental health services.

Collin Meyer

★★★★★
I met Collin Meyer less than 5 years ago and in that short time, I have come to know him as a man of incredible integrity and many, many talents. What sets Collin apart from so many other people is his willingness to share his talents and our non profit has been the recipient of that generosity. He has a great sense of humor and deep respect for the beliefs of others.

Beyond a “therapist”

★★★★★
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Rachel. I've been in therapy for most of my (talking) life, and only she has helped me, connected with me, cooperated with me, guided me, in a way I never thought possible. There is a Hebrew word, "Bashe'rt" - It roughly means, "meant to be". Our meeting was Bashe'rt. She was the light during a very dark time and continues to be the torch leading the way. Rachel is first and foremost, genuine and kind. She remembers just about everything (so no need to repeat yourself), she has a great sense of humor, which balances perfectly with her professionalism, and counseling expertise. Yet, she is also very compassionate and understanding. She makes me feel safe, even if we do a tele-session. If I'm feeling overwhelmed in any way, she is able to help me ground myself and relax, in under 3 minutes. Seriously. She's THAT good. There is a rating scale below, asking to rate 1-5 *... 5 being the best option, yet not a nearly high enough number to rate Rachel. (On a completely different note, the building's bathrooms are "meh". I just suggest pre-bathrooming before you come for a session.)
