Despite popular belief, screen use does not have a negative effect on teens’ wellbeing. This, from researchers at the Oxford Internet Institute.

Researchers analyzed data from over 17,000 teens, including total screen time per day, depression symptoms, self-esteem, and mood. Researchers relied on self-reported measures as well as information provided by teens’ caregivers.

They concluded that screen use had little impact on adolescent mental health. This goes for time spent online, watching TV, and gaming.

Researchers note that screen time among teens is under intense scrutiny. However, there is not substantial evidence that supports the belief that screen use in adolescence is harmful.
