Long work days can increase your risk of stroke. This, according to a new study published in Stroke, a journal by the American Heart Association.

Researchers analyzed questionnaires completed by 143,592 participants, which gathered information on age, sex, smoking, and work hours. Researchers also considered stroke history and cardiovascular risk factors.

The team made several significant observations regarding stroke risk and long work hours, defined as more than 10 hours a day for at least 50 days per year. They found that participants working long hours had a 29% increased risk of stroke, while those working long hours for 10 years or more had a 45% increased risk of stroke.

Researchers say a healthy work life balance is important. They advise people to moderate how much they work.
