We all have intense cravings for indulgent foods, like pizza and ice cream. And there’s nothing wrong with indulging every now and then. But if you’re trying to eat healthier or you’re following a strict diet, you’re met with the challenge of defeating these food cravings. Here are four tips for doing it successfully:
One, fill up on water. Sometimes, we experience food cravings because we’re thirsty! So, try drinking a tall glass of water. This could conquer your food craving within just a few minutes.
Two, keep your mind busy. Try reading a book or chewing gum to occupy your mind with something other than your craving. You might realize a few hours later that you forgot all about that slice of pizza or bowl of ice cream.
Three, brush your teeth. This could work by tricking your brain into thinking a meal is over. Or, if your brain is stubborn, the leftover toothpaste flavor might curb your craving instead.
Four, do an easy workout. Go for a short walk or do 100 jumping jacks. One study published in the journal Appetite, found that a quick exercise can reduce cravings and reduce snacking.
Put all four of these tips to the test the next time you experience an intense food craving.
