We all have those days when we get infuriated by trivial things: traffic, slow internet, a lost remote. I’m getting annoyed just thinking about it! Still, here are 3 tips that can help conquer anger:
One, take a deep breath. when you feel anger bubbling up inside try this: Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold it for another 4 seconds, and breathe back out for 4. This will calm your body and, in effect, calm your mind.
Two, focus on what’s in your control. If standstill traffic is what set you off, make a mental list of what you can and can’t control about the situation. For example, you can control how you pass the time while you wait. But you can’t control the construction crew’s progress up the road. This should help to put your mind at ease.
Three: find the funny. Do your best to laugh off the maddening circumstances. Make fun of how ridiculous the situation is. Or, if you’re too angry to find the situation at hand funny, look for humor elsewhere. Watch a hilarious YouTube clip, ask your friend to tell you a joke, or think back to a memory that makes you laugh.
The standstill traffic, sluggish internet, and remote that’s nowhere to be found isn’t worth an angry reaction. Try these 3 tips to stay calm.
