Asking for a raise can be uncomfortable, but it’s worth it if you do it right. Here are two tips: One, ask at the right time. Two, consider the weather.
Your boss probably won’t approve a raise if they don’t think you’ve earned it. So, ask for a raise when you know you deserve it: perhaps after a positive performance review, completion of a successful project, or an increase in responsibility.
Also, consider the weather. Researchers at the University of Southern Brittany looked at the relationship between weather and mood and found that people are more generous on sunny days. They say this spike in generosity could inspire your boss to agree to upping your pay.
If you want a raise, your value should be apparent and the weather should be pleasant.
