Some days I can’t get out of bed. Some days I can get out of bed, but refuse to get out of bed. In either case, I end up wasting the whole day away in bed—all thanks to stress and anxiety. Well, I say no more. While it’s okay to not be okay, I’ve decided to take control of my life again. I’m taking proactive steps toward having better days, and you can too. The first step is to throw off those covers and get out of bed. Then make your way to these three places, which will prove to relieve you of all that stress and anxiety:

1) Colada Shop

Until recent months, I was not a coffee drinker. In fact, I strongly disliked coffee and didn’t get what all the hype was about. Desperate to understand, I started doing my work at coffee shops and ordering a new drink each day. After a few days of experimenting, I still wasn’t totally on board with the steaming hot cups of caffeine, but I was a changed woman nonetheless—because I discovered the peace and serenity that exists inside of a local coffee shop. Coffee shops are now my go-to stress relievers. I bring my laptop or a book, and I soak up the cozy ambiance in a corner. See for yourself just how relieving this can be by paying a visit to Colada Shop. This café doubles as a bar, which means coffee drinkers get to enjoy strong coffee, and non-coffee drinkers can sip on a brew or cocktail. In either case, this relaxed, yet friendly environment will prove to lift your spirits and crush the stress you walked in with.

2) Color Me Mine

I’ve always been a creative individual: I enjoy writing, painting, listening to and playing music. And I think—no, I know there’s a lot of value in creating art, which is exactly why I spend my free-time singing, plucking the strings of my guitar, and decorating canvases. Some people find this hard to believe. Why wouldn’t you just watch TV or something? Because as I said before, art is a super hero. And its power is healing. Don’t believe me? Spend some time at Color Me Mine in Sterling, VA and you will. At this studio, anything you could imagine can become your canvas: dishware, figurines, frames, decorations, and more. Just pick which one you like best and then bring it to life with color. Don’t worry about making a fool of yourself either, just focus on what’s right in front of you and channel your inner artist. I guarantee that one or two hours spent here will get you in the right headspace again.

3) Squisito Pizza and Pasta

The most difficult question I’ve ever been asked is, “What’s your favorite food?” Seems simple enough, but I’ve never been able to give a definitive answer. I just can’t pick between pizza and pasta. And quite frankly, I don’t think I should have to. These two beloved Italian dishes deserve to be enjoyed equally, as they don’t only look, taste, and smell amazing, they get me through some pretty tough times. Whenever I have a really bad day or my anxiety acts up, I indulge in pepperoni pizza and spaghetti. And every time, they succeed in boosting my spirits. I might sound a little bit crazy, but trust me: pizza and pasta always do the trick. See for yourself by dining in or carrying out at Squisito Pizza and Pasta, which just opened right outside of Sterling in Ashburn, VA. It will be well worth the trip, as these family recipes make for the best possible pizza and pasta experience—you will, without a doubt, leave Squisito’s with a satisfied stomach and mind.
