The less sleep we get, the more negative we become. This, from a study at Karolinska Institute that analyzed 117 participants.
Researchers sought to explore how sleep deprivation affects us emotionally: specifically, our mood and our ability to regulate emotions.
The team found that sleep deprivation leads to a more negative attitude and poor emotional regulation—of which can contribute to the development of mental illnesses like depression.
Researchers say these findings help us to better understand the importance of sleep and the role it plays in our mental health.
