Private Practice Marketing Q & A
Private Practice Marketing Question: Marketing my private practice is an on-going challenge, but it is something many therapists struggle to keep up with. What one marketing activity do you recommend they engage in consistently to get results?
Answer: Thanks for the question. First, you are absolutely right, private practice marketing is one of the things counselors, therapist, and private practices struggle with. It’s just one of those things that you are expected to do, but it was never made clear how to do so.
With so many avenues out there, it is easy to get distracted in the world of advertising, marketing, and public relations. It is even easier to give away your money without seeing results. With Social Media, Print Ads, Radio Spots, the avenues could be endless and the money could disappear.
On thing that we recommend that you consistently do to get results is engage in an online presence via a website, blog, SEO, social media, and content marketing. When people are looking for a counselor, therapist, psychologist, they are going to Google 90%-95% of the time. They are Googling “Counselor in Manhattan” or “Miami Counseling” looking to see who is around them. If you are not in the top 5 on Google, more than likely, your clients will not be able to find you.
Maintaining a website with new blog postings and information can help your rank of Google. But a quick tip: When writing your blog post, write about what people want to hear. It is tempting to get on your blog and let it become a personal diary; coincidentally, blog did come from the word “weblog” – meaning to write about current happenings. But today, people and clients are more concerned about having their questions answered. If you are in private practice, you are an expert – write about what you know.
Lastly, one of the best and most important activities to engage in is organic SEO. Do some keyword research, audit your site, and see how you can write excellent content that will help you rank on Google – making your phone ring. Remember those 90%-95% of your clients that will go to the search engines before giving you a call, this is the way you reach them.
