Depression Counseling and Therapy in Toledo, OH

Depression Counseling and Therapy in Toledo, OH

Have you ever had a really bad day, week, or month? Of course you have—we all have. Depression, though, is more than just having a bad day, week, or month. Depression comes with difficult, intense emotions. Those with depression feel a deep despair and lose interest in their day to day life.

These individuals might also struggle to fall or stay asleep at night. They might lose their appetite and display harmful changes in their eating habits. They might experience feelings of restlessness and hopelessness. They might withdraw from their loved ones and their work.

As you can see (and may have even experienced yourself), depression can be brutal. The good part, though, is that there is effective treatment for this mental disorder. Both therapy and medication can help people manage their depression and take back control of their life.

You deserve to live a happy, fulfilled life. If depression is getting in your way of that, consider reaching out to Thriveworks Counseling in Toledo, OH. We have therapists on staff who specialize in treating depression. These professionals can help you explore root causes of your depression, manage your specific symptoms, and move forward happier than you’ve been in a long time.

Signs and Symptoms of Depression

We painted a small picture of depression above. But we understand that often, it’s hard to recognize the signs and symptoms of depression in oneself. We tend to brush off our emotions and expect that these difficult feelings will resolve themselves.

It’s important that you are able to recognize any signs and symptoms of depression that might develop. Let’s break down those symptoms we mentioned earlier:

  • Deep despair
  • Loss of interest in day to day life
  • Withdrawal from loved ones and others
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • Sleep trouble
  • Harmful changes in eating habits
  • Lack of motivation
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Restlessness

Are you experiencing any of these symptoms? Is there a chance that you might be depressed or on your way to developing depression? We know that these aren’t easy questions to answer. Talk to one of our therapists—they can help you explore and answer these important questions. And if you are depressed or close to it, they can help you manage these difficult feelings and get back on track.

Types of Depression: Major, Minor, and Other Depressive Disorders

Depression can be divided into a few different disorders. There is major depression, minor depression, postpartum depression, bipolar disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and other types of depression. Here’s a little bit about each of these:

  1. Major and minor depression: These two types of depression are similar. As you can infer from their names, though, major depression comes with more severe symptoms (those we lifted above).
  2. Postpartum depression: This form of depression develops in women after they’ve had a baby. It can come with the symptoms listed earlier and also difficult emotions that surround their baby.
  3. Bipolar disorder: This is another type of depression that comes with depressed states and manic states. Those with bipolar disorder switch back and forth between the two.
  4. Seasonal affective disorder: Seasonal affective disorder, otherwise known as winter depression, is a form of depression that develops in the colder, darker months.

All of the above depressive disorders can interfere with one’s living a happy, normal life. If you think that you might have one of these forms of depression or another type of depression, please consider talking to a depression counselor at Thriveworks Counseling in Toledo, OH.
