[learn_more caption="How do you approach working with teens who are self-harming?"]Understand self-harm as a coping mechanism and a means of emotional expression. My goal is to understand how it works for them, and to work on the underlying issues while teaching a variety of alternative coping skills.[/learn_more]

[learn_more caption="Can you offer 3 tips for parents of teens who self injure?"]

  • Do not respond with negative judgment or shaming statements, as this will likely increase the self-harm.
  • Tell your child you love them and that you are sorry they are hurting.
  • Understand that this is different from a suicide attempt, and that it is most likely your child trying to cope with his or her feelings.

[/learn_more]

[learn_more caption="How do you define codependency?"]A codependent person is one who enables a partner who is dealing with addiction or other unhealthy behaviors, usually from a belief that they must show love by supporting their partner no matter what and that if they are successful in this their partner will change.[/learn_more]

[learn_more caption="What types of treatment goals do you think are important for someone to overcome codependency?"]Appropriate treatment goals include learning to set healthy boundaries, being willing to follow through with consequences of boundary violation, working on a sense of self-worth separate from the partner, learning ways to cope with stress/anxiety. These are just examples; each person will have different reasons for being codependent.[/learn_more]

[learn_more caption="How do work with clients who are dealing with substance abuse issues and do not want to take a 12-Step approach?"]The twelve steps have worked for a lot of people, but I recognize they do not work for everyone. I tend to utilize Motivational Interviewing to determine the client’s readiness to change and to help the client shift from one level to another. I understand that substance abuse is a coping mechanism, so I work with clients on the underlying issues and teaching alternative coping strategies.[/learn_more]

[learn_more caption="Why do you recommend counseling for those who are grieving?"]There are many reasons people grieve, and death is just one of them. Sometimes it is difficult for someone to imagine life without whatever was lost (job, home, pet, loved one, good health, etc). Sometimes the loss means there is no longer an opportunity to repair the relationship. Whatever the circumstances, having someone listen without offering platitudes and helping you to find the “new normal” can make a huge difference.[/learn_more]

SHOUT OUT!!!!! KENNY

★★★★★

I had to call the support center to get our insurance straight for the sessions we were having with ms. Lee. I had the pleasure of speaking with Kenny. Again, just like with every person i have spoke with, he was amazing. Extremely professional, courteous and very knowledgeable. Once we finished, he and i just spoke a little and i thanked him for all he did to help me get the insurance information straight. It was at that point he let me know it was his first day! I was shocked! I would have never guessed in a million years that was his first day. He then told me his supervisor was helping him and it was Adrienne who i had spoke with on a previous call and have written a review about her as well. I’ve said it in previous reviews, however, i am going to say it again. The training must be impeccable, because for it to be Kenny’s first day and the way he worked with me was spot on. A huge shout out to Kenny!!!!

Thriveworks is definitely the perfect place for our family and they truly care or the two individuals,Kenny and Missy who were in training however, sounded like they had been working for Thriveworks for years!!!!! This is a wonderful place and if you need counseling, i highly recommend Thriveworks. I definitely did my research before deciding on a counselor and kept coming back to Ms. Lee. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences and i know it will continue.

Thriveworks Counseling Chesterfield

SHOUT OUT!!!!! ADRIENNE

★★★★★

I called and had the pleasure of speaking to Adrienne. I explained I had been speaking with Missy however she said she wasn’t available but could help me if I wanted to let her too. I decided to explain what had happened about the appointment being canceled due to the policy and how I felt that Ms. Kristen Lee, lcsw, was the person my family and I needed to see. Adrienne was so very positive and genuine and told me she would talk with her supervisor to see if she could contact the chesterfield center to see if anything could be worked out so we would be able to schedule an appointment. She explained it may be a few days before I heard back and I told her that was perfectly fine. I guess it was maybe an hour or so and my phone rang and it was Adrienne. She had fantastic, wonderful, phenomenal (i could go on, but i think you understand) news. Ms. Lee agreed to see us for intake. I was so happy, I honestly couldn’t believe what i was hearing, but it was true. I provided all of our information and we now have an appointment. Adrienne went above and beyond and she didn’t have to but she did. She also informed me when i was speaking to missy, she was in training and she was her supervisor. I would have never guessed because Missy seemed like she had been doing this for a while, she never hesitated when I would ask a question and was extremely professional. Amazing!!!!!

So a huge shout out to Adrienne for all she did to make this happen for us!!!!!

Thriveworks Counseling Chesterfield

SHOUT OUT!!!!! MISSY

★★★★★

I decided it was meant for my family and I to see ms. Kristen lee, lcsw, especially after reading her bio. I called the number and had the pleasure of speaking to Missy. She was who I was meant to talk with on my first call. She and I connected and she did her best to try to work out an appointment for us and she did. Then I received a call from her letting me know the we could not keep the appointment for two reasons, the first appointment for intake had to be on a weekday and secondly, Ms. Lee was not going to be available. I was heartbroken because our older son and his wife live in Charlottesville and for him to take off from work for a weekday was going to be impossible, however I told Missy I completely understood and she said if she ever noticed any changes in the policy, she would let me know. I then learned from her supervisor she was in training. I would have never guessed this as she was so professional, courteous and was able to answer every question with no hesitation. Her confidence really showed. Whoever or however training works with this organization, it is superior!!

So this is a huge shout out to Missy for all she did to try to make this happen for us!!!!!

Thriveworks Counseling Chesterfield

SHOUT OUT!!!!! MS. KRISTEN LEE, LCSW

★★★★★

Where do i begin???? There are no words to express the gratitude that I have for the kindness, professionalism and the all around genuine care that was shown to me each time I called to try to arrange an appointment with Ms. Kristen lee, lcsw. I can’t thank you enough, I have no words, but Ms. Lee, you will truly never know how much we appreciate you making it possible for my family to see you. You didn’t have to make that decision however, you did and for that, I thank you. A massive shout out to you!!!!!!!

Variety and Options

★★★★★
Joining this practice was a great choice for our family! Our individual counselor, who was a perfect fit for our teen, got us involved with group programs as well, starting with a teen group lead by Kristen Lee. Kristen did a fantastic job cultivating a group where teens, who were likely feeling alone in their struggles, found comfort and formed friendships. I hope she runs it again in the fall.

Unhappy Patient

★★★☆☆
My daughter could not make it to her 4:00 appointment today because of an accident that had the entire road closed and was beyond her control. She has never missed an appointment before. I called at 3:15 to let someone know that she was going to do her best to get there. She called back at 4:30 to let them know that she was still sitting in traffic and was not going to make it before her time was up. When she finally got home, she called to reschedule her appointment and was told that she would have to wait two weeks until her next scheduled appointment and would be charged a $99 cancellation fee. Although I think that is way too steep, I’m more upset that she has to wait another two weeks to see her therapist when this has really stressed her out. I’m beginning to think they don’t care about their patients, just the money.

Treated like a number

★★☆☆☆
Copied from email to my prescriber at this location... On the last appointment I had scheduled with Julie Wilcox on 1/17; I notified this provider that I had influenza since 1/10 and remained seriously ill. In fact, I still had fevers of 103+ and was treated for pneumonia. The response I received was her advising me of the $99 missed appointment fee. As a fellow clinician, I am fully aware of the business of providing care. That said, in the year that I’ve been a patient at Thriveworks, I’ve never missed an appointment. In fact, I’ve been extremely accommodating of my provider’s schedules (I’ve had four in the 11 months as a patient.) As an advanced practice registered nurse, and widely known health advocate, I am asking your owners and office manager to reconsider this penalty. My reasons are two fold. First, having been extremely ill, I would not have exposed their providers by coming to a non-urgent appointment. Additionally, your office is on the second floor. I have a pre-existing disability (as does my son) that makes it difficult to access my appointment when well; therefore, having flu/pneumonia, I would not have been able to safely access my provider. I advised Ms. Wilcox that I take my behavioral health needs seriously, and that I did not feel she was a good fit. Empathy for a patient as more than a “number” or “fee” is critically important in our field. As my prescriber, you can attest to this first-hand. It is my intent to keep you as my prescriber as I am quite comfortable with our current treatment plan. In fact, I referred my husband to you when he was seriously ill. It should be an easy decision to waive that late fee, as I have been a good, reliable patient. Ms. Wilcox’s decision resulted in loss of a weekly, insured client; and, left me wondering if I would continue to refer patients, friends, neighbors, colleagues to your practice. I will await their response.

Best service in Chesterfield!

★★★★★
I have taken my son to multiple locations in Chesterfield County, and this by far has surpassed all of the others. It does not have the vibe of a 'doctor's office' when you walk through the door. Jenny is AMAZING. She keeps a comfortable atmosphere, engages in one-on-one conversation, and her recollection is astounding. She remembers names, dates, places, and events that were brought up weeks prior, without looking back through notes or asking for reminders. It is also nice having email and telephone access to my son's therapist outside of appointment times- this is an amazing benefit of Thriveworks.

★★★★★
We feel so fortunate to have found Kristen. My 9 yo son was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety at age 7. She makes our sessions interactive and fun so he stays engaged. She works with our family as well as the school staff and his doctors, so the work doesn't stop at her door! She gives us assignments and things to try and discuss at home and with the school. My son looks forward to his sessions with her. We have seen improvements in him at home and at school. She has helped all of us to better understand what my son goes through and it has improved our overall home life.

Kristen is amazing. I had several issues going on, and they all seemed urgent. I was so happy to get an appointment within a day. I couldn't wait the 45-60 days all of the previous providers offered. I began meeting with Kristen and immediately she was able to help me see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am hooked now because she helped me accomplish several short term goals, but now I am also looking for her valuable advice for my long term goals. I have learned quite a few techniques from her and in a much happier place. Thanks Kristen!

Kristen Lee – The Best Clinician Ever

★★★★★
I've been taking my son to see Kristen Lee for about a month now. We've worked with Kristen before, and she's great at her job. When we first started working with Kristen, my son was having issues that was caused by him witnessing Domestic Violence to me from his dad. My son has come along way from the first time that we met Kristen. We lost contact with her for a while, but I am so glad that I was able to find her again. Because my son had started to have the old issues resurface again, as well as some new ones. I would greatly recommend Kristen to everyone who has a child whom has been through any sort of trauma. Because not only does she help the child, she helps the parent as well by giving both of them tools to work with to help each other.

Very Helpful

★★★★★
I found Thriveworks online and am very pleased with location and office setting. As someone over 60, I did not wish to talk to anyone I had never met. I wanted to solve my own problems. Jenny is easy to talk to and makes you feel comfortable. She offers professional insight but let's you find your own way. Within a short time I have begun moving forward in my life.

Awesome

★★★★★
I have been going to this office for several months now and Chelsi is wonderful. She is very flexible and understands if I'm not able to make an appointment. Even scheduling my very first appointment was very easy and fast.
Thriveworks Counseling Chesterfield

Horrible experience

★☆☆☆☆
I waited for 45 minutes on the day of my scheduled and confirmed appointment only to call and they tell me, "oh, sorry your appointment never got scheduled on our end". I ask for a refund and I'm told someone will contact me in 24 to 48 hours. After not being contacted 48 hours later, I call and they tell me none of this is documented and someone will contact me in 24 to 48 hours again. If you need help, Im not sure Thriveworks is the best option.
Thriveworks Counseling Chesterfield

Impersonal

★☆☆☆☆
Before you begin counseling services here, you are charged $99 for ‘provider access’ which is non-refundable. After paying this fee, I attended one counseling session which was another $99. The session consisted of the counselor asking me questions directly from a form on her laptop. I don’t have much experience at all with counseling but it was a very impersonal encounter. She rarely even looked at me and just flatly asked each question. Two weeks later, I called the day prior to my scheduled appointment to reschedule because there was an urgent need for me at work the next day and there was no way I could get out of it. I was charged another $99 for an appointment cancellation. Each time I tried contacting the office, I was routed to a call center and was held on hold for a long while before I could even talk to a human. There is not even a receptionist in the office. I’m very confused as to the initial fee of $99 for ‘provider access’ when you can’t even talk to a representative from the office during business hours! As a healthcare provider myself, I am also questioning the legality of charging in full for a service that was not provided. At this point, I have paid $300 and that was just for a very impersonal experience with the provider in which she just completed a form (it seems better suited as something that could have been completed online prior to the appointment?). I would not recommend Thriveworks to anybody.
Thriveworks Counseling Chesterfield

Disappointed

★☆☆☆☆
Unfortunately, this place did not meet expectations. Not only must you pay a membership fee to see someone, it is an additional charge per each appointment. Crazy that you have to be a member to go to counseling now. I would not recommend this practice to anyone.

Wonderful Counselors, Wonderful People

★★★★★
The office waiting room is wonderful; calm, peaceful, even serene when it's playing ocean noises. My counselor has been wonderful over the past six months after my breakup; after my first appointment, I walked out feeling confident that I was heading in the right direction. Not only is my counselor been a great counselor and a great confidante, but she has also been a wonderful friend, showing genuine happiness when I got my new job and genuine sadness when our family cat died during our time together.
Thriveworks Counseling Chesterfield

Comforting

★★★★★
The atmosphere is comforting and Jenny, the LCSW, is so easy to talk to and has great insight to my issues at hand. I was a bit hesitant with going to this practice because of the initial $99 client registration fee; however, it is worth it. The hours are flexible and they are very professional and responsive.

I cannot begin to tell you how much coming here has helped my whole family. When we started my oldest child and I argued all day everyday. We now have a more normal relationship. Coach Katie

★★★★★
Life circumstances can be overwhelming BUT Katie Webb has the experience in making her clients comfortable, attentive to the "big" picture, and keeping it real. She understands that it takes time and patience to overcome whatever it is that gets in the way of progress and coach her clients to not get discouraged but encourage self love and a more positive perspective of the now. Talking to Katie is like talking to a true friend who really cares about you and want to see you happy and successful on the good days and bad days. Thanks Katie!

I've been with Thriveworks for almost two years now. The facility is great - waiting room is comfortable and the "no check in " process is a major plus!!!! Always love the beverages provided in the waiting room and appointment scheduling with the therapist is such an easy process. I hit it off instantly with my therapist - she keeps it real - positive, inspiring and ever so helpful! I know I wouldn't be where I am today without the support from Thriveworks and Katy!!! Recently started seeing Kirby for medication management and we have had great success! I highly recommend Thriveworks to anyone seeking therapy/coaching and/or medication management!

Katy Webb

★★★★★
Katy Webb has taught me how to be wisely generous. I used to be naively generous and kind to others to the point where I was often taken advantage of. Most people would cease this behavior, but she has taught me how I can continue to be giving without losing my faith in humanity. She has had a profound impact on my life and my sense of happiness.

Lisa Bessette-amazing

★★★★★
Lisa has been so easy to warm up to from the get go. She is approachable, funny, real, and makes you feel comfortable from the second you meet her. It is very challenging to find a therapist that you can warm up to so easily and I can honestly say I've never felt a session go by that I didn't leave feeling inspired and encouraged by her words and knowledge. I even referred someone else to her and they have had the exact same experience---which shows how versatile Lisa is and wonderful she is with all different patients. Anyone that is struggling with making that first appointment---take the leap and make it with Lisa. You will not be disappointed and I promise she will make you feel like you are having a cup of coffee with an old friend.

Dr. John Sears – Highly recommend

★★★★★
I highly recommend Dr. Sears. I have been seeing him now for several weeks. We had some trauma in our family. Through this, he has been incredibly thoughtful and prepared for my sessions. He has helped me to make sense of a senseless act. Through his years and years of experience he knows exactly when to push me to ask myself hard questions, and when to let it rest and come back to it another time. His approach is very respectful of each person. He has such deep and varied experience he can easily pull from any of this experience. I have also really appreciated his professionalism.

Jenny Warne is Excellent

★★★★★
I have attempted counseling numerous times in the past but was never able to make it past one or two sessions as I always found the counselors to be either out of tune or completely full of themselves. I am beyond glad I gave it one last try as I found Jenny Warne who is insightful, understanding and very able to connect to the person she is talking to in a meaningful way. If life has thrown you a curve-ball that you need help working through, she is the person to see.

Gentle but consistent

★★★★★
My 16 year old daughter began seeing Jenny Warne for generalized social anxiety and feelings of depression. My daughter is very shy, but Jenny has been able to help her to open up. Jenny has an excellent way of meeting my DD where she is and waiting for her to feel comfortable. She also is gentle when she is calling my DD out on something that she may have aewed version of. I appreciate that Jenny has the parents join for the last ten or so minutes to go over what's been discussed (with permission) and to help mediate anything that remains. She is an ally for both parents and teen, which is a hard role to pull off, but Jenny does it effectively and with a smile!

Empathic Person-Centered Care

★★★★★
I worked with Katy Webb at the VCUHS Complex Care Clinic, October 2011 – March 2013. During that period of time she worked with patients and their families who are impacted by multiple acute health conditions that are compounded by social determinants of health. She worked closely with the treatment team and the patient as a support and advocate promoting health, empowerment and a sense of well-being in our patient population. She has excellent communication skills closely working with families to ensure that they meet the goals they have established for themselves. Above all else, her level of empathy creates warm positive person-centered care.

Kathryn Webb Life Coaching

★★★★★
Before I started seeing Katy, most of my day was spent trying to remember what it was I was supposed to be doing. I was consistently late on assignments at work and athool, I was rushing to prepare materials for presentation at the last minute, and at home my lack of attention and accountability led more than a few embarrassing moments of forgetfulness. Over the past few months I have seen this all change. The focus strategies, positive encouragement, and superior support that Katy has given to me has helped me organize my life, and achieve at work in a way that I didn't think I'd ever be able to do. I am able to have friends and family over to my house because it isn't a complete mess anymore. All around I am happier now than I think I have ever been in my adult life. All I can say is: Thank you and Katy for helping me get my life on track!

Katy is fantastic!

★★★★★
My daughter has been going to see Katy Webb for a little over a year now and Katy is wonderful. I was referred to by my insurance company once my daughter had "outgrown" her child psychologist that she had been seeing since she was approximately 7 years old. My daughter and I both were not sure what to expect when we first came here...Katy has exceeded all of our expectations. Sometimes I am a part of their session and sometimes it is just the two of them; I am not sure what they discuss while my daughter is with Katy but the coping skills and changes I have seen in my daughter's self-esteem and anxiety/depression are wonderful. We still have hard days, and sad days, but they are not as often. I would recommend Katy to anyone looking for a LifeCoach without a hint of reservation. Katy really is fantastic!
