Beverly Hills Insomnia Counseling

Therapy for Insomnia, Beverly Hills, MI

Whether you can’t fall asleep or can’t stay asleep, anyone who suffers from insomnia knows how hard it can be to lose hours of precious rest. Your body and mind need that time to recover and be restored. But just because you need sleep, doesn’t mean sleep always comes. Maybe you have tried some home remedies for insomnia: drinking a particular tea or using a special lamp that promises to increase sleep. Sometimes these adjustments can help in the short-term, but they rarely bring long-term success.

A cognitive behavior therapy approach to insomnia therapy has helped many people regain the rest they need each night. Insomnia therapists who utilize cognitive behavior therapy equip their clients with practical steps to optimize sleep and help their clients discover insomnia’s cause.

If you are ready for relief from insomnia, the therapists at Beverly Hills, MI are ready to help with their training and expertise in cognitive behavior therapy for insomnia.

Insomnia: What It Is

Insomnia can take a lot of forms. Some people can fall asleep quickly, but they also wake easily. They might fall asleep at 10:00 p.m., but wake at midnight. Instead of starting their day with eight hours of sleep at 6:00 a.m., they start their day at midnight with two hours of sleep.

Or some people fall asleep quickly, but they wake for three or four hours in the middle of the night before falling asleep again. Instead of continuous sleep, they sleep for two hours, wake up and then sleep for two or three more.

Maybe people cannot fall asleep. Instead of watching their dreams, they are watching the clock until two o’clock, three o’clock, four o’clock… Some nights, they eventually fall asleep for an hour or two. Some nights, they do not fall asleep at all.

Sometimes people seemingly sleep through the night, but they wake up exhausted. Eight hours of sleep should feel refreshing, but for these people, sleep feels draining. Insomnia can be short-term, lasting for a few weeks or long-term, lasting for months or even years.

Insomnia: How It Is Caused

Many people suffer from insomnia at some point in their lives, and its root causes are varied. Insomnia can come with other health problems such as depression and anxiety. Lifestyle choices such as diet and excise can affect insomnia. Aging issues, such as menopause, can trigger insomnia. An increase in stress is also linked to an increase in insomnia. Insomnia can also occur on its own with no warning or apparent cause.

Insomnia: It’s Effects

Whether sleep disturbances have lasted a week or years, many difficulties result from too little or disturbed sleep. A few of these effects include…

  1. Inability to focus.
  2. Increased drowsiness.
  3. Decreased sex drive.
  4. Irritability.
  5. Traffic accidents and close calls.
  6. Low job performance.

Insomnia brings many difficulties, but there is help. You are not alone in your fight for better sleep. Insomnia therapists at Beverly Hills, MI have helped many regain the restorative, restful sleep they need.

Insomnia Therapy at Beverly Hills, MI

Changing sleep patterns may mean changing habits and thoughts during the day. Insomnia therapists at Beverly Hills, MI offer cognitive behavioral therapy that guides their clients through changes that may enhance their ability to sleep soundly through the night.

How does cognitive behavior therapy for insomnia work?

Our therapists may address negative beliefs that keep their clients from sleeping. For example, after a few nights, a week, a month, even a year of sleep disturbance, many people come to believe they are “bad sleepers.” That belief may reinforce the insomnia and may increase it. That negative belief has trained their subconscious, but our professionals have experience in identifying those negative belief patterns. They have helped their clients retrain their subconscious toward beneficial thought patterns and beliefs.

Our therapists may address underlying causes of insomnia. Insomnia and anxiety are often linked. Our therapists have helped their clients address anxiety in their lives and any other root cause of insomnia. As our therapists work with each individual, they determine if something deeper may be causing the sleep disturbance and then guide their clients toward addressing it.

Whatever the insomnia’s source may be, all clients want the same thing: a good night’s sleep.

Our therapists work with their clients to customize practical steps that can optimize sleeping conditions and may lead to healthier sleeping habits. These steps may include:

  • Consistent bedtimes. Going to be and waking up at the same time every day, including weekends. Over time, your body will begin to anticipate this consistent sleep/awake pattern.
  • Exercise and healthy eating. Too much caffeine or alcohol can have negative impact on sleep habits. How and when you exercise may be affecting your sleep as well. Our counselors work with their clients to find an exercise and food routine that works for them.
  • Relaxation guides. Our therapists have helped their clients learn how to direct their mind toward calm, restful, and relaxing thoughts at bedtime.

Insomnia is a complex disorder, and while there is no quick fix, there is help. Our therapists who offer insomnia counseling have helped many clients gain the knowledge and skills they need to form better sleeping habits.

If you are losing sleep, know that help is possible. Appointments for insomnia therapy are available that fit busy schedules, and we accept most insurance provider.

You have waited long enough for restorative sleep, so insomnia counseling at Beverly Hills, MI does not keep a waitlist. Instead, appointments are available soon. Call our office to schedule an appointment.

Review for Sandra Quigley

★★★★★
*****I have been a patient of Sandra's for nearly 2 years now and I really can't say enough good things about her work with me. She is a true Christian counselor and that was exactly the perspective I needed to guide me down the path God was trying to lead me. She definitely strengthened my faith and made many of life's big problems seem like small speed bumps when looking at the big picture!! I highly recommend Sandra Q. if you are looking for the someone who honestly cares about you and the journey you are on. Remember, there’s ultimately only one way to peace in your life, and that’s to walk daily with the Prince of Peace, Christ Jesus!! *****

I wouldn’t recommend it – one of the worst therapists I’ve ever seen

★☆☆☆☆
The doctor (PhD) I saw for therapy decided, on the second session, to pay more attention to doing things on his phone than to listening to me. He thought he was hiding what he was doing behind his portfolio, but he was not. I could see the reflection of what he was doing, and he was looking down more than up. He was pretending to listen but didn't do a very good job of that, because when I stopped talking, he would incorrectly try to restate what I said or, make a comment on what I said which turned out to not be relevant because it was clear he wasn't listening. He did not seem to want to be there. It was a horrible experience. I called the next day to complain to the lady on the phone, and got a sincere "I'm sorry" and that's it. When I got the bill (very expensive, by the way), I have been attempting to call the office to pay it over the phone but I keep getting told that the people that do the billing are currently busy and that I should call back. It should not be that difficult for someone to take a credit card number and apply it to my bill, especially a bill I shouldn't have to pay due to horrible service. I hope the other therapists at Thriveworks are better than the one I selected, and actually have interest in helping their patients.

She helped change my life

★★★★★
Dear Marcy, I can't thank you enough for recommending your therapist Dawn Gaden to me. She has helped change my life. I have always struggled with feeling misunderstood. But recently I fell into a deep depression; beyond something I could resolve myself. Therapy was required for my recovery. Since childhood I have been weary of therapists because I would talk through my problems but I didn't get tools and strategies to handle my problems better. Dawn has changed that. For the first time I leave each appointment not only relieved from having talked my issues through, but more importantly with tools to help me move forward. She has introduced me to methods I had considered silly, but now I could live without. I am proud of the person I am becoming and the journey I have chosen to take. Thank you for all you have done to change my life and my family's future.

Everything I needed

★★★★★
I found Sandra Quigley in the back of a magazine (Psychology Today). I desperately needed someone to talk to. Newly retired with plenty of time to allow my mind to take over my life, I felt constantly anxious and very out of sorts. Enter Sandra Quigley- compassionate, non-judgmental, kind, and gentle. She is everything that I needed to heal myself. I had never talked to a therapist before, so this was a new venture. It was very important to me that I find someone with whom I could feel comfortable. Right away, I felt comfortable. I did have assignments; I never was prescribed a single drug. She went out of her way to help me specifically with my issues- finding me articles, books, telling stories. I never felt uncomfortable; I felt and still feel that my time with Sandra is valuable. With Sandra’s help, I have unearthed a much calmer, happier, together self that now wakes up each morning looking forward to the day ahead. We all have our baggage- I never once realized that I could unpack that bag and put my crap away. I now get to walk through life so much lighter!!

So helpful!

★★★★★
I really love the helpful and peaceful approach at Thriveworks. I have known Marcy for a long time and her ability to work through tough spots and discuss personalities makes her a lot of fun for me. Time flies when we chat and that is a good thing for a guy like me who is always worried about time. I also love Dawn Gadens video blogs! Wow...so insightful and easy to access. I don't see Dawn in counseling but if she is that good on video I have to believe she is great in person. Give a shot...I bet you will love them.
