Counseling and Therapy in Utah—Meet with a Utah Counselor, Therapist, or Life Coach

Many of us prefer not to open up about our mental health battles. But that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. On any given day, we are all dealing with our own demons, be it a traumatic experience that’s lingering, depression or anxiety, stress, or an influx of all of the aforementioned. Now, while we might not like to talk about these battles with our coworkers, our friends, our parents, or our children, it is important that we talk to someone when we could use a little help or support. That someone can be a mental health professional.

“Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.”

–Victor Hugo

Am I Cut Out for Counseling? Who Can Benefit from Therapy?

There’s a false presumption that the only people who can benefit from counseling are those who face severe mental illnesses, like major depression. The reality, though, is that we can call benefit from counseling! Now, there are of course certain instances in life in which counseling can prove particularly valuable or necessary. For example, here are some common reasons people decide to meet with our Thriveworks Utah Counseling providers:

  1. Relationship strife or disarray: One of the top reasons people decide to pursue counseling is that they are experiencing relationship strife. For example, infidelity, jealousy, or poor communication is making the relationship and life miserable. Fortunately, couples therapy and marriage counseling can help.
  2. Overwhelm of stress: Overwhelm of stress is another common reason that people enter counseling. We all encounter stress, be it at work, at home, or in our relationships. But sometimes this stress proves to be too much or unmanageable. A counselor can help us to better manage this stress and even cut out unnecessary stressors from our life.
  3. Symptoms of a mental illness: Above, we mentioned that people with mental illnesses aren’t the only people who seek counseling. While that is true, it’s also true that many people who seek counseling have mental health conditions or symptoms of a mental illness. Counseling and therapy can help these individuals manage their symptoms, understand potential causes, and ultimately learn to live a great life despite the condition.
  4. Tough losses: Arguably, the most difficult time in one’s life is following the loss of a loved one. Nothing can prepare us for the death of a friend, family member, or pet. However, grief counselors and therapists can help us cope and manage the influx of difficult emotions that are sure to come.
  5. Difficult emotions: Now, we don’t only experience difficult emotions during times of grief. We can experience difficult emotions on any given day, and sometimes we don’t know what to do with them! This certainly can warrant help from a counselor, and the counselors at Thriveworks Utah are happy to help one manage these emotions.
  6. Something isn’t quite right: Also, some people simply find that something isn’t quite right in their life. Something is missing or “off.” And one doesn’t always know exactly what that thing is. Fortunately, a counselor can help these individuals pinpoint exactly what’s missing or what they need from life that they aren’t currently getting.

The conversations that are had in counseling change from one client to the next. Remember that the help, guidance, and support we offer at Thriveworks Utah Counseling is depended on your needs, not anyone else’s. We are happy to provide this important personalized approach to mental health treatment for all of our clients.
