Help for Insomnia in Round Rock, TX—Counselors and Therapists

Most people have trouble sleeping at some point in their life.  For some this issue lasts longer than they would hope.  Sleep problems can become insidious, slowly stealing from your waking life as they also take from your sleep.  Really the problem with insomnia is not that a person really wants to be asleep at a certain time, it’s that the lack of sleep negatively impacts virtually every element of someone’s waking life.

Being exhausted impacts work, relationships, enjoyment, attention span, anger, ability to drive safely, food, almost everything.  Sometimes a person does not even notice the issues, as they slowly creep in after weeks or months of not sleeping well.  Other times it’s those close to a person that notice, such as when someone starts acting “different” and starts to snap at people.

Some people can point to the cause of their insomnia, but for others the cause is more difficult to identify.  Maybe you stay awake at night thinking about a difficult situation or mistakes throughout the day, maybe it’s fear of what could happen the next day, or maybe you just can’t seem to fall asleep anymore.  No matter where/why a person has sleep trouble, roughly a third of US adults report insomnia in any given year and that does not include the growing problem of teen insomnia.

Some common causes of insomnia include (but are not limited to):

  • Depression
  • Poor sleep habits
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Conflict with others
  • Anger
  • Shame
  • Mood swings
  • Drug/alcohol use
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Trauma
  • Medical Conditions

Your mind and/or body is trying to tell you something.  There are several ways Thriveworks Round Rock can try to help you understand and improve sleep difficulties.  We have counselors that can use several different approaches that work with insomnia and will be able to help develop a specialized plan that may help.  Often, insomnia is a symptom of other issues, that may be able to be treated through counseling.

  • Check in with yourself, do you:
  • Take more than 30 min to fall asleep
  • Wake up during the night and have trouble returning to sleep
  • Have fatigue/moodiness/other daytime symptoms of poor sleep
  • Get less than 7 hours of sleep a night
  • Go to bed in an environment that should help you sleep, but it doesn’t
  • Just feel that you don’t get “good sleep” or enough sleep.

If any of those sound true to you, it’s possible you have sleep problems. To find out more, contact Thriveworks Round Rock at (512) 212-7045 and set up an appointment, you can also go to our counselor page and book an appointment with our counselors directly.

Note:  Some sleep problems are indicative of medical conditions that could be best served via treatment with your medical provider.  If you have concerns that you have a medical condition that is dangerous or otherwise needs treatment, see your medical provider.  Counseling is considered non-invasive and is usually a great first step, and if sleep problems can be improved without meds, that’s also great.  However, if you need a doctor, go to one!

Aimee Corona is incredibly skilled, compassionate, encouraging, and knows when to exercise "tough love" to help the client become more confident and guide them through their recovery. She has a very whole person approach and works to get to know the client without judgment. Her goal in our family and individual treatment has been to help us heal, grow, and become more confident independently. She has always held our best interest at heart and is incredibly professional. I highly recommend Ms. Corona.
