Anxiety Counseling – Therapists and Counselors in Round Rock, TX
Most people have anxiety sometimes. When it works the way it is intended, anxiety is actually helpful (I know, that can be hard to believe). I once read an article on a lady that lacked the ability to fear (fear and anxiety being related emotions), and it sounded very dangerous for her. She didn’t know to stay away from dangerous animals, she didn’t run from a knife wielding attacker, and probably a lifetime of other seemingly poor choices. I bring that up to show my point, anxiety is not bad in moderation. It can cause us to pay attention, to think about something again, and to not blindly do something that may cause us trouble. In short, it can be the brain saying “hold on, there might be danger!” The problem is that anxiety can easily be “triggered” when we don’t want it or need it.
Counseling can help!
Here is the issue. Anxiety is great when you have a focus or an easy way to “do.” For some people the “do” is a fight response, for some it’s a flight response, and for some it’s a freeze response. Each one is good in some situations and bad in others, the problem is they all tend to be bad at times in the modern world. If you walk into a dark cave and hear something growl, at least one of those responses could save your life! If you are about to give a speech at work/school, probably none of them are going to help.
It’s ok, if you have anxiety “problems” you are not broken, a very important part of you is just too good at it’s job sometimes. There is a lot of things that can cause anxiety in our world today, maybe even more so in the greater Austin area. Remember:
- Anxiety problems are one of the most common mental health related problems in the US.
- Anxiety disorders affect roughly 40 million adults in the US each year*
- Anxiety is highly treatable
- You are not alone
A licensed clinician at Thriveworks Round Rock can help you. There are a lot of different paths one of our clinicians can take, and that path will be based on what you and the clinician feel is best for you. No good clinician makes promises about results, but I can say that almost every client that commits to therapy here will be better prepared for what they face. Most clients with anxiety issues do show significant improvements over time, and do report that therapy was well worth it. We will walk you through every step of the process, and if for some reason we can’t help, we will let you know who can.
