Child Therapy for Developmental Disabilities—Help and Support at TherapyLand

When you have a child that is struggling in any area, your concern and worry can consume your life. We love our children more than we could have ever imagined before they came into our lives. We would do anything to help them. But when a child is having difficulty functioning, or facing a serious diagnosis, it can be very overwhelming. And often, we don’t know where to turn.

At Thriveworks, we have specialists available, trained in developmental disabilities, ready and able to help your child. If your child is struggling with a developmental disability, consider setting them up with one of our child therapists. TherapyLand will supplement their growth and success in child therapy treatment.

What Is a Developmental Disability?

There are many different types of developmental disabilities, and this group of disorders includes both physical and intellectual impairments. Developmental disabilities are those that appear in early childhood, before the age of 22 months, and are likely to last a lifetime. Here is a list of several common developmental disabilities:

  1. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): This condition is characterized by a combination of problems, like a lack of attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Children with ADHD might experience a low self-esteem, difficulty forming and maintaining relationships, poor performance at school, and other negative effects. However, kids with ADHD can learn how to cope with this disorder and live a happy, successful life.
  2. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Autism spectrum disorder is another common developmental disability among children, which involves challenges with speech as well as nonverbal communication; trouble or discomfort with social interactions; and restricted or repetitive behaviors. The CDC estimates that 1 in 59 children have autism. But again, those with ASD can go on to live successful and fulfilling lives.
  3. Intellectual Disability: This disability is characterized by intellectual functioning limitations—specifically with reasoning, learning, and problem solving abilities—as well as social and practical skills. Again, this does not prevent children from going on to live well! And the child therapists at Thriveworks are here to prove it.

If you think that your child might have one of the above developmental disabilities, or another disability that we have not covered, consider reaching out to Thriveworks. Our child therapists can help your child in the positive, empowering space that TherapyLand provides.
