Psychiatric Medicine
In most cases, therapy alone is able to help the average client overcome symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. When it comes to lifelong disorders, therapy alone is also effective. However, there are circumstances where medicine and therapy combined make for a powerful alternative. At Thriveworks, we offer psychiatric medicine for those cases.
How would you know if medicine is the right choice for you? The most obvious answer to that question is to see your primary care physician or a psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis. In a less formal setting, you might consider the following indicators that could lead you to inquiry about psychiatric medication.
The first indicator is depression or anxiety so severe that you are unable to summon the strength to fulfill your obligations at work or in your personal relationships. These are called maladaptive behaviors.
The second indicator could be panic or fear so great that attending therapy becomes difficult, in which case, medicine could serve as the bridge to get you to therapy or your doctor’s office.
In cases of delusions or hallucinations, medicine is often the primary treatment with therapy as a support system. These conditions fall under psychosis.
Medicine isn’t right for everyone, but if you feel therapy is not enough, then you have an option with Thriveworks North Little Rock. Our psychiatric medicine managers are well-trained, board certified, and ready to help.
