Moira McCormick, LPC

Philosophy of Care

I specialize in working with children and adolescents dealing with anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, anger and life transitions. I have extensive experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum. Within a therapeutic setting, I put much emphasis on healthy relationships and I believe the key to that is incorporating parents and/or caregivers into treatment.

In addition to outpatient counseling, I work as a school therapist in a local public middle school. I am very much aware of the stress that exists in the school environment (both social and academic). I enjoy helping adolescents discover their true potential and overcome obstacles that they are faced with.

I am warm, humorous and original in my approach.

I am able to highlight positive qualities within individuals and provide tools and creative ways to incorporate these qualities into everyday life. I believe that everyone deserves to live the life in which you desire. Often times, we just need a reminder of our self-worth and a refresh of therapeutic tools.

I'm a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania as well as a registered art therapist. I earned a master's degree in art therapy and counseling from Drexel University and have practiced in a number of mental health settings. I have experience working with clients who present with diverse clinical issues, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use. I believe psychotherapy is a collaborative effort, in which the therapist supports client strengths and insights as a means of eliciting change. I intend to offer compassionate, affirming care which provides opportunities to challenge old patterns and to build new interpersonal skills. I also offer arts-based interventions if that feels like something which would be helpful for you (and no, you don't have to be an artist!).

I look forward to working with you!

I am a firm believer that therapy is for everyone. Therapists aren’t magicians. We are simply trained to use and share a broad “tool box” of skills for managing life’s problems. Therapy is hard work, but should result in you building your skills and capacity to manage whatever life has thrown your way.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience working with individuals and families of all ages. I identify as a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist, but as a Social Worker I frame all of my work by exploring how individuals exist within their family and community systems.

I am a compassionate and caring therapist who has worked on the “business side” of behavioral health for years. As such, you will find me to be a warm, easy to talk to clinician with a results orientation. I have significant experience treating individuals with trauma-exposure, attachment issues, eating disorders, and physical symptoms stemming from emotional states. I will see adults and adolescents for individual sessions, and provide family therapy for young people 14 and below.

I joined Thriveworks with a desire to work collaboratively with individuals, couples, and families in an effort to embrace change, process life events, and further personal growth and development. The therapeutic relationship provides an opportunity to learn more fully about one’s self and it is a privilege for me to be able to embark on that journey and help influence an individual’s ability to experience transformation and gain increased satisfaction in life. It is my privilege to join clients on this journey.

My areas of specialization include trauma, depression, anxiety, anger management, trauma, healthy sexual development, relationship discord, conflict resolution, loss and grief, and effective communication styles.

My counseling style is eclectic as I acknowledge the unique characteristics that are present within the many approaches to therapy. This allows for the use of the most appropriate tools as the therapeutic relationship evolves and allows adaption to honor the distinct and dynamic human being.. Many of the hours I have spent in professional development have been focused on cognitive behavioral treatment approaches and dialectical behavioral therapy.

I really liked Meaghan

★★★★★
I really liked Meaghan, she was very helpful at defusing when things got a bit hostile. She focused on the major issues and the small frustrating things happening between us. I wish we could come more often! I didn’t like the fact that we stressed to the receptionist that we needed later appointments due to Keith’s jobs but she told us that we had to come early just for this appointment and each one after that would be later. She scheduled us with a therapist who does have late appointments which makes no sense at all after stressing that we picked Their on the bases of having those late appointment options.

Therapist was very comforting

★★★★★
Therapist was very comforting and was also able to get everyone to open up. I only wish that she had more evening/weekend hours available. It’s going to be difficult for me to give a reason for being late to work every week. I am looking forward to continuing.

Counseling session itself was great

★★★★☆
Counseling session itself was great, and noise machines ensured privacy. However, the lobby area was quite small and the chairs directly faced each other, leading to a slightly awkward waiting room experience. Maybe have smaller chairs or spread them out more?

Amazing Person Inside and Out

★★★★★
Miss Frye is an amazing therapist. She was able to connect with my son in the first session and get him to open up about issues I was not aware of. With her personal connection with my son and great communication with me, we were able to work through our issues together as a team. Today my son is one of the happiest kids I know. I give Miss Frye a great deal of the credit because of her admiration for her job, it helped me recognize certain behaviors and taught me how to "react" to his behaviors in a positive fashion. Miss Frye is truly an asset to the Mental Health field!

Truly Remarkable

★★★★★
Dr. Alan Goldberg I followed Dr. Alan Goldberg from his former practice to with excellent reason. Alan has always made me feel that we are on the same page sine our first session. His true caring and warmth earned my trust and respect from the start. His real and empathetic manner would make anyone feel comfortable and open to his outstanding guidance and skill building. With his help, for the first time. I was and have been able to identify my mental and emotional needs in many distressed areas of my life. Alan has imbued in me the wisdom to realize that the only person's behavior I can change is my own, and to ask for skills, step by step solutions to serious problems I had had for years. He has given me a wealth of super effective suggestions, ideas, resources, etc., that have greatly assisted me in changing much of my negative behavior into positive. Under Dr. Goldberg's support and encouragement, in a calm and relaxed atmosphere, I was given the strength to go from a major atypical morbid paralyzing depression to a much more healthy, harmonious and balanced mindset. After nasty verbal fighting with my mother for decades, the productive changes in my behavior brought about an abrupt positive change in my mother's negative, criticizing manner. Thanks to Dr. Goldberg, I and my mother enjoyed a close and wonderful relationship the last six years of her life. On the lighter side, Alan and I have discussed everything from music of the 60's to Star Trek to how to avoid jerks when dating. But most importantly, Alan's approaches to developing a healthy and balanced life are not just for mental and emotional improvement. Alan's extraordinary guidance also extends to physical improvement, ( in my case dieting, exercise, nutrition ), to spiritual growth, and to any and all positive change and flourishing. I therefore give my highest recommendation to the remarkable Dr. Goldberg and Thriveworks. A plus is that has the most comfortable, relaxing waiting area, and an assortment of coffee, herbal teas, bottled water, and even hard candy goodies. A huge negative is that does not accept most insurance. Medicare and highly solvent and reputable secondary insurance should be accepted.

Mary

★★★★★
I have been seeing Mary since October. I am a much better person now than I was when she met me. I was a wreck, life in shambles but Mary has been a sweetheart and I am doing so much better. She makes me feel comfortable and she has been a great help to me. My visits have decreased and I am a much stronger person than I was when I began therapy. This a great place for counseling, don't miss an opportunity to be blessed.
Thriveworks Counseling Philadelphia (JFK Blvd)

Professional, empowering, kind

★★★★★
Dr. Laura Keyser and I have been meeting for about a month now. She has been a huge help with my current situation, and I look forward to our weekly meetings. I am so glad I found her (and Thriveworks) in a time where I didn't know what else to do or where to go and generally was in a worse off place. Recommend to anyone who wants a convenient location and hours. Be sure to talk through the different subscription options available.
