Deployment Counseling – Therapists and Counselors in Colorado Springs, CO
For every military movie and book telling a true story, we know there are countless other unsung heroes and their family members fighting to keep this nation safe, and that is just the surface level fight. The service members and their families who have been impacted by deployment know that not every story can be portrayed by Chris Hemsworth and sent to the big screen- there are many struggles that lurk beneath the soil of the brave and free. Colorado Springs Thriveworks Counseling is in the hub for military action, and many of us have been directly impacted by deployment as well. You and your family have and still are serving this nation in the biggest way possible, so let us serve you and not let you walk the path of deployment alone.
Colorado Springs Thriveworks deployment counseling offers numerous options for families and individuals in the pre-deployment, post deployment, active deployment and reunion stages. We also have counseling for children of deployed parents and guardians.
How We Can Help
There is much to adjust to when you, a spouse, friend or family member is deployed. Some examples of ways Colorado Springs Thriveworks can aid you are:
- Improving relationships at home and work
- Stress management
- Adjusting to difficulties
- Parenting
- Depression and anxiety
- Feelings of anger
Many, many, more! Whatever you are experiencing is always worth a call. Each stage of deployment can offer new difficulties for service members and their families. Colorado Springs Thriveworks always looks at situations as the unique and difficult time they are and leads you to the exclusive solution required. This is a hard process for you and your family, and we want to respect that while respecting your right to the best deployment term you and your loved ones can have.
Deployment Counseling for Children
Being a Soldier’s Child is something to be proud of; it is a difficult thing to cope with the long-time absence of a parent or guardian, and sometimes even the strongest soul needs some help.
If your child or teenager is exhibiting these signs, they could be struggling with the preparation for deployment, the absence of a parent or even the reunion of a loved one:
- Anxiety or depression
- Anger outbursts
- Confusion (thinking parent left them, believing their safety and security are gone)
- Problems in school (absences, grades)
- Regression in behaviors (going back to thumb sucking)
- Overly concern over about losing someone else
- Eating problems
- Difficulty sleeping
- Complaints of stomach aches, headaches or other illnesses
Many of our counselors and therapists specialize in both military/deployment counseling and adolescent counseling, so they would be delighted to meet with your teenager one on one or with you if you think it would be beneficial.
For younger children, the process of deployment is even more confusing. Sometimes the sudden absence of a parent can set them spiraling into the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) which can make the already hard job of raising a young child even harder! We like to employ the parents and let them be the guiding hand that leads their children to understanding and healing. One common method is play therapy; there is something powerful in a parent and child simply playing together!
We also are diligent in communicating with the children’s teacher at school. School is always one constant in their lives and should be an understanding place.
Service members and their families have sacrificed so much, so there is no reason you need to suffer the challenges of deployment alone. Colorado Springs Thriveworks is always there to give you the extra support needed! Call 719-266-3919 to schedule.
