Stress and Anxiety Counseling – Therapists and Counselors in Bastrop
There’s a mantra in Frank Herbert’s science fiction book series, Dune, that does an exceptional job of putting fear in its proper context:
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Stop for a moment and meditate on these words — read them again.
Fear and worry (also known as anxiety) can come in a number of forms, such as work drama, stressing over future situations that may not be true or may never come to pass. When we dwell on these anxious feelings, your can become exceedingly difficult. Completing simple, daily tasks or job functions can be incredibly difficult, and you might not even know what the problem is.
You might be suffering from an anxiety. Do not let this possibility bring about even more worry, however. Anxiety is incredibly common, and, therefore, incredibly treatable. If you’re thinking in this moment right now that you might have an anxiety disorder, not only should you not worry, but it’s time to pop the cork and begin the celebration.
Seriously. You’re identifying a problem, and now that you’ve identified it, the first major hurdle has been overcome. You can now begin using that knowledge to face your fear and permit it to pass over and through you.
At Thriveworks Bastrop Anxiety Therapy, we will work through the anxiety issues you’re struggling with and help you develop practices to help relive that anxiety, so you can stand tall, confident and ready to tackle life’s obstacles and opportunities with a smile on your face.
You can change. You can thrive. We can help.
Anxiety Disorders Take Many Forms
Anxiety is completely indiscriminate about who it affects. It can latch on to anyone and everyone — regardless of their belief system, age, gender, ethnicity or orientation — at any moment. In our sessions together, we will get to know you, talk about your struggles and talk about the sort of anxiety you may be dealing with.
Types of anxiety disorders include:
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Agoraphobia (fear of specific places or situations)
- Separation Anxiety
- Generalized anxiety disorder
- Social anxiety
- Phobias
- Panic disorder
- School phobia (particularly in children)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
Some instances of anxiety disorders are relatively mild and manageable (getting plenty of sleep, regular exercise and a healthy diet work wonders in conjunction with therapy). Other anxiety disorders can be severe to the point of assaulting your physical wellbeing with headaches, chronic fatigue, headaches, heavy sweating and a rapid heartbeat, for example.
Some people suffering with anxiety might even feel like they’re having a heart attack, with thoughts of imminent death creeping around your brain.
Who needs that — really? Who wants to live with that? Who would CHOOSE to live with that?
The answer: No one. Many people believe that they have no choice in the matter, and that they are just stressed and fearful because of things that are outside of their control. You might see your worries as part of who you are, instead of recognizing them as intruders threatening to undermine your wellbeing.
Well, like the quote says above, you are not your anxiety. We want to help you work through it and take steps toward seeing it pass. We want to help you live with a happier, more fulfilling and relaxed state of mind.
