I love that you mentioned therapists or counselors are bound by law to keep everything confidential. My boyfriend has finally convinced me to see a psychiatrist because of my mental health condition. I don't feel comfortable sharing my feelings with a stranger, but it did make me feel better to know that therapist would not divulge my secrets. Thanks.

I didn't know before that what I say in therapy will be kept confidential, so I appreciate that you would say it because it will help me be open during my sessions once I start. My wife and I have been talking about finding a therapist for our marriage because we have been through a lot. I will be sure to talk to my wife about how things will be kept confidential, so both of us could be open with who we choose to hire.

It's good to know that everything that you say in a therapy session is kept confidential unless it puts someone's safety at risk. Ever since my brother passed away last spring, I have been experiencing a lot of anxiety that is preventing me from going to work, and I have a difficult time expressing my emotions due to some trust issues that I have. Maybe I can speak to a therapist knowing that everything will be kept private.

Thank you for the comment about keeping your personal goals of what you want out of therapy in mid when you go in. My sister has been wanting to try therapy for her son who has been having a lot of trouble lately. I think that it would really help him be able to figure out what he should do in tough situations in a more healthy way.

The therapist might ask you some standard questions like "have you had suicidal thoughts? how do you sleep?" to get an idea of your current conditions so they can see how to best help you. You are probably also given time to say anything else on your mind, which would be another time you can bring things like that up.

How was your session?

Hello Jay. My name is CJ. I’m sorry you feel forced into therapy. I see that you had many questions. Since you wrote your post on Monday, I assume that you went to your appointment already this week. I hope it went alright for you. Were you able to talk to your counselor? Were your questions answered or do you still have some?
I would like to help if you still want it!
