So, I am recently divorced. My husband at the time was controlling and we didn’t have a fun loving daily contact relationship. He said I was too positive and full of fairy tales and pixie dust. We were living apart because of work. He was in DC and I was in Florida, which sucked. I used the cell phone locator and at times I’d see him in places that didn’t make sense so I’d get upset and when he’d finally call/FaceTime me, he’d say that he had a stressful job and that the cell phone locator was not reliable and that I had a self full filing prophecy of him cheating on me. Well, I tried to keep a positive attitude and am a very positive person and I would never desire anything that my ex would say is a self fulfilling prophecy! That man-term is so frickin disturbing. No women would ever want anything like their husband cheating on them so how is a self fulfilling prophecy a proper term? I just want a committed and loving husband because I am a committed loving wife!

I guess it all depends on how people choose to see things or what they wish to believe. If I slap you right now, or scratch your car, I could bet that you couldn’t just “choose” to be happy about it. This is a self fulfilling prophecy I expect to win because I will be expecting a negative reaction and I’m sure I would get one from you.

On another note, I am in a relationship that has a lot of red flags. Either that, or maybe I should change the way I think about it before what I thought were warning signs actually become self fulfilling prophecies. Since I’m the decider of what happens and the feelings that occur, and I really like this person, I will choose for nothing to go wrong in the relationship and feel good about it.

Good stuff. In a nutshell, if a black cat crosses my path on the way to work, does that mean I’m going to have a bad day? If so, I just won a negative self-fulfilling prophesy. I could just as easily have though the rare presence of a black cat is a blessing, so, today will be magnificent. Everything simply is. We decide what emotion, if any, is to be attached to the event.
