Jon...what about the whole sedentary lifestyle issue (lack of exercise)? I would love to hear your thoughts on the differences between the older generations like mine that spent all day outside playing hard and riding bikes VS the Xbox generation (I love video games and so do my kids) who are outside for 20 minutes and claim it is too hot, too cold, or boring.

Thoughts?

Thanks for your comment Thomas. You bring up a good point that this particular piece doesn't get into, and that is the exploration of effective parenting techniques that don't deliver the opposite results. The intention of these observations and the given research is to at least make parents aware that more discipline may need to be added to child-rearing when it comes to food regulation. In the future, we'll aim to provide more clinical research on how this can be executed safely and successfully.

>as long as we teach our kids to limit them

How do we 'teach' this? By explaining our ideas, or by withholding large portions? If the latter then we must remember that micromanaged people become *stressed* and typically deal with that stress by looking for a source of pleasure or comfort. Such as ice cream, beer, religion, cigarettes, self-harm, etc.
