I have it on Good Authority its a bullshit diagnosis they put down when there is nothing wrong with you so the Psychiatrist can bill you. Only problem is it then becomes part of your record and your officially a crazy person. Good luck living a happy life after that. The diagnosis is the stressor and its lifelong.

"For example, someone who lost their job just like Tom may not have experienced the distress that Tom did, but rather saw the firing as an opportunity and thrived because of it. And if he could do that, why couldn’t Tom? Again, we’re all different—we process major life events differently and some of us develop mental illnesses while others don’t."

What if Tom was wrongfully terminated? What if Toms employer was managed by sociopaths who attempted to induce crazy behavior in him? What if Toms employer was breaking the law and he reported them and they fired him? Nope none of that matters. Tom is just fucking crazy. There are numerous reasons for someones behavior in a situation. Psychiatry completely ignores other peoples behavior and only cares about how you react to it. Everything is a mental illness to you whackjobs. Its the logic of a child.

Thank you for your clear and succinct description of adjustment disorder. I was diagnosed with this a few years ago following a very serious illness and my negative response to it. I am still trying to wade through the whole process (trying to keep things really simple) and clear & simple analysis like this I find very helpful. I wish my G.P. who gave me the label had explained it like this!! It’s nice to know there are people out there that I can share this with without fear of retribution for negative comment. Thank you again.
