In reply to <a href="https://twx.atlantacounseling.com/blog/21-parenting-tips/comment-page-2/#comment-33866">Deanna R. Jones</a>.

I agree regarding the discipline. I had noticed that depending on how my husband felt any given day, the discipline/consequences varied a lot and it felt inconsistent. We took emotions out of the equation by creating (with our kid) an actions and consequences chart. Once we had a go-to consequence for every "infraction", we never had to get our anger up to create discipline scenarios again. The consistency also taught our child quickly, and she stopped most of the undesirable behaviors within a few weeks. I liked that she had picked her own consequences, like a 5 minute time-out for this, or taking away dessert for that. She set the standard for herself.

I agree, every parent wants to have a nurturing and loving relationship with their kids. Knowing a few tips as to how to raise children who are respectful and responsible while maintaining a good relationship with them is very helpful. The advice in tip #10 is a very good piece of advice for disciplining kids. Knowing to never discipline kids when you're feeling angry and how to modify their behavior rather than hurt them is a very good point. Behavior modification is the main goal behind discipline in any form, so parents should know to remain calm when dealing with children and adolescents.
