Your words hit so deeply. I can relate to every single thing you said. I’m so sorry anyone else has to feel even a fraction of what I go through every second of every day. But I’m 42 and I’m not planning on giving up anytime soon. I’ve gotten this far, why not try for a couple of more years and see where I’m at. I believe in miracles, so who knows.
I hope you’re doing better that when you wrote this. I want to believe it can only get better from here.

I wasn't sure if I was depressed or was just down all the time... that was until I read the symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder, now so many of my changes make sense, like why I don't want to eat or often feel useless or a burden to others. This has helped me understand why I feel the way I do and I now understand I need help... Thanks to this I now know to ask someone to talk to me...I just hope I can do it.

I had no idea that bipolar disorder can cause people to experience sudden and intense depression. My wife and I recently invited my brother over for dinner last weekend and enjoyed our time together, but his wife recently called to tell me that he hasn't been getting out of bed and has been missing work this week. I should find a professional that can help my brother as soon as possible.

It makes sense that having a feeling of despair can be a sign that you have a major depressive disorder. Ever since my cousin's mother passed away, he has had a negative outlook on both himself and life and feels like each day is unfulfilling. Maybe it would be best for him to receive therapy to help him improve his mindset.

I didn't know that difficulties with remembering or concentrating are signs of a major depressive disorder. I remember when my friend was able to get excellent grades in school, but now it seems like she is falling behind as a result of her inability to focus in class. Maybe it would be best for her to see a counselor so that she can determine if she has depression.

I have suffered from persistent depressive disorder since at least the age of 12. That's when I started laying awake at night begging God to make me like everyone else..to make me normal. I have never gotten much in the way of understanding or emotional support from my family. They can't even comprehend what I go through and have repeatedly made things worse. My parents believe I honestly choose to be the way I am - to live a marginal existence defined by failure, sadness, anger, various mental disabilities and never-ending thoughts of suicide. I have never drank, taken drugs or used anything but prescriptions (and sometimes overeating) to treat my illness. My parents did try to help by supporting me financially my entire adult life but as time went on I came to realize that this has handicapped me even worse. If not for a couple of friends who have been through similar experiences I would have taken my own life long ago. However, with each passing year I become less capable of dealing with the self-hatred and crippling despair. I feel like there's a huge dark clock ticking and that one day I will wake up and be unable to fight off the urge to end it all. I can't even count the times I've almost followed through. The only thing that stops me now is the thought of disappointing my sister and the few friends I have. After decades of begging God to help heal my mind and spirit now I'm just begging him to help the few people who might miss me to deal with the loss and to take me home. I wouldn't wish this curse on anyone - it hasn't merely ruined my life but has also kept me from truly living. If you know someone who is like this: unable to concentrate or remember simple things; unable to cope with even minor setbacks; seems to be sad or angry most of the time; lacks motivation or direction or only has interests that take them out of reality then there's a very good chance they are depressed. PLEASE do whatever you can to help them get assistance because temporary depression can easily become chronic depression. If their already at the chronic stage then its even MORE important for them to get help. Trust me, a life is a terrible thing to waste.
